Purpose | -To assist project staff with outreach in various community venues and events where Portuguese-speaking men gather, providing information and materials about safe sex practices. -To provide feedback to the Portuguese speaking men's outreach coordinator in the ways and means of doing outreach to Portuguese-speaking men who engage in same gender sex. | ||

Time Commitment | 3 hours per week for once a month for 12 months Details: The majority of time will be spent in outreach activities. Some time will be spent in shift debreifing after outreach. There will be an initial training schedule with individual mentoring in the field. | ||
Duties | The Volunteer will: - provide condoms and information to gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men in Portuguese and English bars, restaurants, community events and other settings - provide feedback to the project staff, individually and in a group with other project volunteers about how outreach is going and how outreach can be diversified | ||
Personal Qualities and Skills | Required Qualities & Skills: - open-minded, non-judgemental about ethnic origins, and sexual practices and behaviours, in particular - able to make referrals and give appropriate information - sensitivity to potentially tense social situations that may be unsafe for individuals to talk about sex (for women in particular) - comfort with talking about sex frankly - a practical ability to converse in Portuguese and English would be an asset - able to work in team capacity with other volunteers and staff, and give and take constructive feedback | ||
