Summary:
This role is responsible for seeking and developing potential job openings with businesses in order to place clients in these positions. The incumbent will liaise with members of the business community to identify hiring needs and then will work closely with clients/individuals who are seeking employment in order to place them in these positions. Key responsibilities will include developing professional relationships with external organizations and assisting clients with employment preparation and job placement. Providing ongoing employment support to people living with HIV/AIDS (PHAs) is also a key aspect of this role. Specific duties and responsibilities will also include, but are not limited to the following and may be subject to change:


Job Development
  1. Assist clients with the preparations of a job search such as researching employment opportunities in all sectors of the labour market and providing advice, coaching and recommendations regarding the employment market and employer needs.
  2. Cultivates, identifies and develops employment opportunities for PHA clients.
  3. Build relationships with employers via cold calling, networking, scheduling appointments, as well as promotional initiatives such as attending job fairs, presentations and workshops.
  4. Consult with employers to place clients directly into paid and unpaid employment.
  5. Assists clients with pre-employment skills, targeted resume writing, interview, job search and job retention skills in order to make them work-ready both one on one and in a workshop learning environment.
  6. Provides follow up and retention with employers and candidates in new positions as appropriate.
  7. Negotiates training opportunities with employers and funding agencies (i.e. ODSP).
  8. Considers individual interests and abilities and the needs of employers when matching individuals to jobs.
  9. Networks with other community based Employment Consultants to maximize access to employment options. Communicates and collaborates with colleagues and partner organizations in order to understand client needs and the labour market.
  10. Negotiates, in conjunction with other appropriate staff, with benefit providers and employers to ensure that individuals seeking employment can reduce their risks regarding medical benefits and other coverage.

Administration & Other Duties
  1. Ensures that client/employer information is documented, updated and accurate. This will include statistical data and information regarding employment services.
  2. Prepares a variety of reports for ACT management staff as required.
  3. Develops, recommends, implements and evaluates a program work plan and budget in collaboration with team.
  4. Completes Job Search Action Plan in collaboration with Employment Plan, client request forms and supporting documents to ensure accountability for ODSP expenditures.
  5. Complies with ACT policies and procedures.

Volunteer Management
  1. Supervises and trains volunteers to provide a variety of services including - resume/cover letter writing, interview coaching and other workshops as required.
