Summary:
Coordinates a harm reduction education and outreach program aimed at increasing awareness and access to HIV prevention and safer substance use information for gay youth and gay men. Specific duties and responsibilities will also include, but are not limited to the following and may be subject to change:


Program Development
  1. In collaboration with other staff, implement peer education and outreach related to HIV prevention and harm reduction targeted at gay youth/ men in Toronto.
  2. Remains current on innovative strategies that reduce the harm associated with HIV related risk taking behaviour and substance use among diverse groups of gay youth/men.
  3. Coordinates and implements harm reduction and HIV prevention outreach at a variety of venues frequented by gay youth/men.
  4. Conducts/facilitates training sessions and workshops both internally and externally.
  5. Identifies and responds to emerging community issues in HIV prevention through development of innovative education opportunities.
  6. Identifies and develops partnership opportunities with a variety of stakeholders to ensure support for, and cooperation with, the program, including service providers, venue owners/managers, gay drug users, party promoters.
  7. Represents the relevant program topics/issues to the media as appropriate.
  8. Evaluates programs to ensure effectiveness and efficiency.

Volunteer Coordination and Outreach:
  1. In consultation with the Program Volunteer Coordinator, recruits and interviews prospective volunteers for program.
  2. Develops, coordinates and delivers specialized volunteer training and orientation.
  3. Provides work direction, supervision, and required support to volunteers.
  4. Ensures volunteer recognition and appreciation for program and participates in Agency wide volunteer recognition events.

Administrative & General Duties
  1. Maintains information in database on volunteers, clients and services provided. Prepares statistical and program reports and proposals.
  2. Develops, recommends and implements workplans and budgets.
  3. Develops varied print and media resources including; on-line harm reduction and HIV prevention information, volunteer recruitment information, project promotional materials and advertisements.
  4. In addition to compliance with all organizational policies and procedures, the incumbent is also expected to behave ethically, demonstrate competence in effective communication and team building, demonstrate effectiveness in working in a collaborative environment, and demonstrate confidence in decision-making and in building relationships.
