Summary: | Develops HIV/STI and hepatitis C online prevention (including Poz prevention) and health promotion outreach activities targeted to diverse communities of gay, bisexual men who have sex with men, including trans men, via social and sexual networking sites (SNS). Specific duties and responsibilities will also include, but are not limited to the following and may be subject to change: |
Community Development:
- Develops strategic partnership opportunities with Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and website administrators in order to promote the health of gay, bisexual men who have sex with men, including trans men.
- Stewards relationships with existing ISPs and website administrators, partners and community agencies.
- Actively participates in online networks, other relevant networks, and coalitions serving men who have sex with men.
- Identifies and responds to emerging online community issues including Poz prevention, through the development of innovative online outreach education, health promotion and community development programs.
- Liaises with representatives of other relavent agencies to communicate information, resolve problems and develop partnership opportunities for online outreach.
- Provides ACT online resource materials and program development experience to other agencies.
- Liaises with representatives of diverse ethno-cultural communities, AIDS service organizations and other social service agencies who provide HIV online prevention/health promotion education to coordinate efforts, improve understanding of current cultural, racial and ethnic issues that can impact the ability of MSM to negotiate safer-sex, and reduce the spread of HIV.
- Develops strategic partnership opportunities with agencies, groups, clubs and businesses to promote the health of gay and bisexual men and other men who have sex with men.
Program Development:
- Develops new outreach initiatives to address emerging needs.
- Identifies emerging issues in HIV prevention/sexual health education.
- Contributes to and/or leads prevention campaigns and resource development including dissemination.
- Collaborates with the Gay Men's Community Education Coordinator to coordinate the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of joint programming.
- Evaluates programs to ensure effectiveness and efficiency.
Outreach Co-ordination and Volunteer Management
- Delivers HIV prevention, sexual health information and referral services within online venues to web-based as well as local health resources.
- Monitors statistical information on online outreach contacts to identify current issues and ensure volunteers have outreach materials that meet client needs.
- Generates quick-access statistical information databank to deliver fact-based sexual health information.
- Liaises with Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and website administrators to identify outreach spaces.
- Designs and implements volunteer training programs specific to online outreach.
- Supervises volunteers, supports skills development, motivation and performance evaluations.
- Schedules and assigns volunteers to online outreach activities.
- Creates communications to ensure volunteers have the information and resources to provide online information and referral services.
- Designs and implements volunteer feedback/evaluation strategy.
- Delivers HIV prevention and sexual health information and referral services in online venues.
Administration & General Duties
- Maintains files of volunteer information, responds appropriately to inquiries, provides information as required.
- Participates on teams and external committees (including on-line committees) to communicate information, resolve problems and achieve the goals of the organization.
- Liaise with ACT staff to develop and implement online promotional campaigns including advertising flyers, condom inserts.
- Provides written submissions to agency communication vehicles including e-bulletins, ED reports, newsletters and annual reports.
- Provides regular updates to agency profiles and bulletin boards online.
- In addition to compliance with all organizational policies and procedures, the incumbent is also expected to behave ethically, demonstrate competence in effective communication and team building, demonstrate effectiveness in working in a collaborative environment, and demonstrate confidence in decision-making and in building relationships.
